Volunteer

The Plural Association is the first and only by Plurals, for Plurals NGO Nonprofit organization.
We are grassroots, peer and volunteer-led, which means that everyone on our team volunteers, (albeit we hope to have paid positions one day) and all our volunteers are lived experienced Plurals and peers themselves.

If you are Plural and want to volunteer, you’ve come to the right place.

This is where you find all the information!

Volunteer FAQ

What are the requirements to volunteer?

You have to legally be an adult. You will need to complete our full The Plural Warmline training or you prove that you are a licensed certified peer specialist, in that case we welcome you to follow the training focused on the Plural experience.

You also need a stable internet connection, a laptop, pc, Chromebook, or a Mac or MacBook. If needed it is possible to volunteer from a smartphone. You need to be able to accept calls in a private and quiet space.

We offer peer support, hence all our The Plural Warmline volunteers need to have lived experienced Plurality, no matter the words or labels they use, to describe their unique and individual experience with Plurality.

Is there a schedule or a minimum amount of hours?

Yes, there is a schedule for The Plural Warmline. You can assign sessions to yourself in the schedule and you can cancel your shift if needed.

We ask all volunteers to commit for a minimum of 2 hours per week to volunteer, unless they are not able to do so due to a disability. We will try our best to meet your access needs.

What is the application process like?

  1. Fill out the detailed application form.
  2. Wait for our email response, usually within 2 to 3 weeks.
  3. Follow our online onboarding training and participate in the online Community and at our online events. (Free, of course.)
  4. Follow The Plural Warmline Training. (Or other more appropriate training.)
  5. Join The Plural Warmline Team and start accepting calls/chats.

We send standardized acceptance or denial letters. (Emails.)

Do we get to use our System name?

We provide our volunteers with the same anonymity guarantees, as we do for those who reach out to The Plural Warmline for support.

All our Plural Warmline volunteers are asked to sign up with a nickname, to protect their identity.  Our team software allows for a status message, in which you could list who is fronting, if that is something you all are comfortable with. Only other volunteers can see those status messages.

Is there a training we have to follow?

Our training materials are available for free, for all our volunteers. All that is required to follow the training, is a device with a working internet connection.

Different teams have different training materials available.

Our The Plural Warmline training consists out of 40 hours minimum of supported self-guided and self-paced online training, listen-in's, role-plays and more.

We do not want to be ableist, but due to legal requirements, the training is mandatory and needs to be completed before someone can volunteer for The Plural Warmline.

You& do have to complete the training but there is no time requirement to finish it, to hopefully make it accessible to many plurals.

If you have questions or concerns, feel free to let us know in the sign up form, or contact us upfront.

If you aren't able to complete the training, we gladly find a different position for you within our teams!
